Courage League Sports and Opportunity on Deck have joined forces to increase the positive impacts on youth through the growth and evolution of adaptive and no-cost sports programs. Together they are now called Can Play Sports. Both organizations have created programs for underserved youth to give them the opportunity to play and build self-confidence. Both programs have worked closely with Waukee APEX student associates in the past on various projects throughout the year, and they continue to do so in their combined effort as Can Play Sports.
Every child CAN PLAY. All children have the courage to play, but barriers such as limited family budgets or the need for an adaptive environment can keep them from participating. Can Play will supplement the cost of playing sports and adapt the play to the skill level for each child, creating the opportunity to play despite the barriers. One way that community members can offer their support is through their annual equipment drive on May 15th from 12:30 – 2:30 in the Clive Aquatic Center Parking Lot. Can Play Sports provides sports opportunities by collecting new and gently used equipment and redistributing the sports gear and equipment to lower-income communities throughout Iowa. Your used sports equipment donation helps support Iowa school-aged girls’ and boys’ dreams by allowing them to participate in sports otherwise unattainable due to astronomical participation costs. Your equipment donation will help keep them safe while building their self-esteem and instilling life-long teamwork skills.
