This year we hired 3 new staff members to the WILC.

Say hello to Heidi Mandt, our new APEX Vet and Global Foods instructor, Kary Sprague, our new CNA instructor and building nurse, and Joy Meksay, our new CNA Clinical and Lab Instructor.

Heidi Mandt HeadshotHeidi comes to us from Central Campus in Des Moines, where she taught Agriculture for the last 3 years. She graduated from Iowa State in Agricultural Education and Global Resource Systems. In her free time she enjoys reading, traveling, gardening, baking, and playing pickleball and volleyball and spending time with her husband, Chris.

Kary Sprague HeadshotKary has been a nurse for 20 years and worked in the field of nursing for almost 25 years in varying areas. She is a native of the Cody, Wyoming area, and has lived in Iowa for 22 years, but her favorite place to relax is the beach. Kary grew up with a family who enjoyed horses, camping and the outdoors. She still enjoys visiting family on her yearly voyages to Wyoming. Kary has been married for 20 years and has four children ages 9 -18. Kary enjoys learning new things, crafts and spending time with friends, her children and especially her husband, Jeremy.

Joy Meksay HeadshotJoy has been married for 19 years and has 4 teenagers that attend Waukee Schools. She was a Maternity Nurse before she stayed at home to raise the kids. In her spare time she likes to cook for her family and friends. During the school year, she and her family like to attend all the sporting events and cheer on the basketball and football games at Waukee!

We are so excited to welcome Heidi, Kary, and Joy to the team!

Along with our new hires, we’ve also had some movement across our Work-Based Learning classes. Anne Boesen, previously the APEX Exploration of Health Sciences and Medicine (EHSM) instructor, has replaced Scott Carlson as one of our School to Work Coordinators. Whitney Overton, last year’s CNA Instructor, has taken over the role of EHSM instructor.
