Whitney HSHello! My name is Whitney Overton, and I am proud to serve as the Exploration of Health Sciences and Medicine instructor at APEX.

I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Over the course of my career, I have worked in a variety of roles within health sciences and nursing, including pharmaceutical sales, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), MercyOne Hospice Inpatient Unit, childcare, Director of Pediatric Home Care covering three states for a major company, school nursing for elementary and middle schools, private duty nursing, and last year as the CNA instructor for APEX. Each of these experiences has shaped my passion for healthcare and education, and I am thrilled to continue bringing that enthusiasm to APEX.

In addition to my teaching role, I am one of the HOSA (a student health occupations organization) Co-Sponsors, and I am excited to support our students as they prepare for the upcoming State and National Leadership Conferences and Competitions. Working with such talented and driven students is truly inspiring!

If you spend even a little time with me, you’ll quickly see my passion for all things related to the human body. I firmly believe in the importance of lifelong learning and take pride in discovering something new every day. The opportunities available to Waukee students through programs like APEX and School to Work are truly exceptional, and I often find myself wishing I had similar options during my own high school years.

When I am not an instructor at APEX, you can find me biking, vintage furniture shopping, and hanging with my adult children.

I am thrilled to be part of APEX and am committed to instilling in my associates a deep appreciation for the health sciences and healthcare fields. Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare by preparing students to make meaningful contributions to their communities. I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this journey!
